Orange County Research Site

Last Saturday I had a great time presenting my talk on finding female ancestors to the Orange County California Genealogy Society (http://occgs.com/). They are a great group with a ton of members. There must have been over 100 people there and I was told that they have approximately 600 members total. I loved their meeting format that includes special interest groups and various workshops that happen on the day of their general meeting.

They meet at the Huntington Beach Public Library, http://www.hbpl.org/. In the library is the genealogy research room that is staffed by the OCCGS volunteers and includes their collections. They have lots of great books and I would highly recommend it as a place to research. According to the library's website there are over 16,000 books and periodicals in the genealogy collection. You could definitely make a day out of it. This library includes a small cafe, gift shop and a large collection of used books that are for sale. Check out the library's card catalog to see if they have books that will help in your research. From what I saw they had general genealogical books like DAR compilations, quite a few map books, family history books and a collection of locality books.
